Our History & Philosophy

In 1981 Dr. Thomas R. Eckman founded TRE Medical, Ltd. in the professional building adjacent to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL. The practice was founded on the principles of excellence in all aspects of women's health care. From the outset, we at TRE Medical have been dedicated to providing compassionate and personal care while striving to maintain the highest technical standards of a surgical specialty. Dr. James Jenks joined TRE Medical in 1983 and was the beneficiary of mentoring by Dr. Eckman until the founder's retirement in 1992. For over thirty-five years, the physicians and staff at TRE Medical have remained true to the principles established by Dr. Eckman. We are proud to have been associated with a select few physicians during that time including Dr. Thomas Eckman (1981 - 1992), Dr. James Jenks (1983 - 2021), Dr. Robert Polacek (1987 - 1991), Dr. Martin Gallo (1989 - 2006), Dr. Robert Lawler (1993 - 2012), Dr. Virginia Kelly (2001 - 2019), Dr. Gloria Kim (2010 - present), Dr. Jennifer Balash (2013 - present), Dr. Elizabeth Weldon (2016 - present), and Dr. Jennifer Hannan (2020 - present)

We reject the increasingly popular model of "treating the herd" that has been infiltrating modern medical practice.
